CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING FACTS... |
BEDWETTING
Persistent bedwetting can cause stress and turn into a trauma for
parents and children. Children feel shame, while many parents get
upset, confused, and feel that they somehow have failed. |
|
Facts that need to be taken into account:
-
You are not alone. Each year, 5 to 7 million families in
the US and Canada face the same situation.
-
Bedwetting affects many age groups. Approximately 1 in
10 six-year-old children wet their bed 3 to 4 times per
week.
-
For some children, the issue can last into their teenage
years.
-
Statistics show that 1 in 5 children will suffer from
bedwetting.
|
|
Some practical advice that may help:
-
Offer help, do not punish. Remember that bedwetting
cannot be controlled - children do not urinate in bed
because they want to.
-
Protect your child's bed with a waterproof mattress
protection (Protect-A-Bed® offers a comfortable solution
with a absorbent terry surface that can be machine
washed and tumble dried).
-
Ask your child not to drink anything one hour before
bedtime.
-
Remind your child to go to the bathroom before bedtime.
-
When spending the night at a friend's, let your child
take the Protect-A-Bed® mattress protection with
him/her. Many children do not want to spend the night at
a friend's house because of bedwetting.

URINARY INCONTINENCE
Some studies show that approximately 1 in 13 adults suffer from
urinary incontinence. Incontinence is usually divided into four
categories.
-
Stress - Loss of urine occurs when the person exerts pressure on
the bladder by coughing, laughing, jumping or leaping.
-
Urgency - A strong and immediate need to urinate. The person
loses urine before being able to reach the toilet.
-
Overflow – An inability to correctly fill the bladder, which may
cause unexpected, frequent, and constant loss of urine.
-
Mixed incontinence - A combination of the above mentioned types.
Stress and urgency frequently occur together, especially in
elder women.
